Georgia Invasive Species Task Force

The Georgia Invasive Species Task Force is comprised of the Georgia Department of Agriculture, the Georgia Forestry Commission, the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, and the University of Georgia.

These state agencies have legislative authority and/or mandates for action for invasive species detection and response as well as long-established relationships with other state and federal agencies. When exotic pests are detected, each agency has clear responsibilities within the Incident Command System (ICS) and their actions depend upon the invasive species detected and their role within the task force.

For more than 25 years, members of this group have worked cooperatively together in invasive species detection, education, and control.

Our Eight Objectives

  1. Coordinate local, state, regional, federal, and international activities and programs.
  2. Control and manage the introduction and spread through education and outreach.
  3. Prevent establishment through early detection and rapid response.
  4. Control or eradicate established populations through cooperative management activities to minimize impacts on non-target species.
  5. Monitor distribution and impacts to determine management priorities.
  6. Identify and implement research on impacts and control.
  7. Prevent introduction and spread through legislative and regulatory efforts.
  8. Secure adequate long-term funding programs.
