What is Hemlock Woolly Adelgid?

Native to Japan, China, and western North America but invasive in the eastern U.S.

Hemlocks in the eastern U.S. do not have a resistance to Hemlock Woolly Adelgid (HWA). Millions of these trees have succumbed to HWA leading to the loss of habitats that depend on them.

There are management practices to help control HWA and save hemlocks. These methods include insecticides, biological control, and additional practices still in development.
